Spent five and a half hours in the sun yesterday and let me just say...OUCH. The back of my neck is bright, bright red. But at least it doesn't hurt as bad today as I thought it would.
Yesterday was the 16th Annual Sunset Martching Band Competition and my sister is in the Color Guard at her school. Which is basically like a dance team with flags and stuff that performs with the band. It's really cool.. Hell, I remember when I was back in school, the band was like one of the geekiest things you could do. Now, it's just incredible. Out is the old marching band music and in are pieces from movies (Pirates of the Caribean), rock bands (Queen) and all sorts of original stuff (one school did pieces of South American, African and Arabian music - so kicked ass). And just the drumlines by themselves are exhilerating to listen to. *Love* drumlines. So, anyway, they had Novice, Class A, Class AA and Open Class. Class is determined by how many members are in the band. These bands had anywhere from 80 to 180. *shivers a bit* Can you imagine? The huge sounds and stuff? It gave me chills a few times. Like listening to 100 bagpipe players all at once. My sister is in Class A and their school was up against six others. My mom and I got there a bit late and missed the first three bands (my sister's was the fourth to perform) but even after watching the last four, we thought (shamefully) that my sister's school probably wouldn't place. Hell, during the break we saw her and she didn't even think they'd place. *huge grin* But they did. First! *bounces a bit* We couldn't stay for the finals that were being held later that night but she called and in the finals they placed sixth out of 21 bands. How cool is that? *huggles her sister*
So...*grins* Just wanted to share! *waves*
