My biggest suggestion to you would be to strive for quality, not necessarily quantity. (Which, coming from me, means very little, considering I haven’t really written much fic. Heh.) Trite, I know, but really, I wouldn’t stress too much about length. If you feel you can better say something in 1,000 words rather than 10,000 words, then it’ll probably end up being a more engaging read. I think readers can often tell when an author’s trying to pad a story, or vice versa, trying to excessively pare a story down.
